BNP chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia has been laid to eternal rest beside her husband and former president Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital today (31 December).
Earlier, the namaz-e-janaza (funeral prayer) was held on Manik Mia Avenue around 3pm, drawing thousands of mourners from across the country.
Khaleda’s elder son and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman stood in the front row during the janaza alongside Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Navy Chief Admiral Nazmul Hasan, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, and others.
Earlier in the day, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Pakistan Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and others arrived in Dhaka to pay tributes to Khaleda.
