Government Assigns Gunmen to Protect Nahid Islam, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah and Tasnim Jara

Government Provides Security Guards to Key Political Figures

The government has taken new measures to ensure the personal safety of political leaders, coordinators, and parliamentary candidates who were actively involved in the July–August movement. As part of this initiative, several frontline figures have been assigned armed security guards, while the process of granting personal firearm licenses for self-defense is also underway.

Police sources confirmed that among those receiving security guards are Nahid Islam, former adviser to the interim government and convener of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP); Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator of NCP’s southern region; Tasnim Jara, senior joint member secretary; and Sarjis Alam, chief coordinator of NCP’s northern region.

In addition to these leaders, several other politicians and parliamentary candidates have applied for gunmen and firearm licenses. Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Shafiqul Rahman has requested round-the-clock protection, including armed police at his residence. Applications have also been submitted for the security of Jatiya Party chairman Anwar Hossain Manju, Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha, Liberal Democratic Party president Colonel (Retd.) Oli Ahmed, Ganosamhati Andolon chief coordinator Jonayed Saki, and Islami Andolon Bangladesh secretary general Yunus Ahmed Sheikh.

Special security arrangements are being made for the family of Shaheed Osman Hadi, a prominent activist in the anti-fascist and anti-hegemony movement. One of Hadi’s sisters will receive both a firearm license and a personal security guard, while other family members will be protected by police on a continuous basis.

Officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that so far, 15 politicians have applied for security guards or firearm licenses, and the number continues to rise. Many others are inquiring about the application process. Alongside politicians, around 25 government officials have also submitted applications for firearm licenses.
