NP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has applied for a travel pass to return to Bangladesh, diplomatic sources confirmed this evening (18 December).
Tarique has completed the necessary formalities and sent the travel pass form to the Bangladesh High Commission in the United Kingdom, they said.
Kamal Uddin, former Joint Secretary of UK BNP and Coordinator of Ziaur Rahman Foundation Europe, facilitated the process.
Tarique has been living in exile in London for nearly 17 years. After the expiration of his Bangladeshi passport, he could not renew it.
Although there was an opportunity to apply for renewal after the ouster of the Awami League government last year, he did not apply.
Under the prevailing circumstances, Tarique will need a travel pass to return to Bangladesh as a Bangladeshi citizen.
However, authorities have publicly stated that he can be issued such a document at a day’s notice.
