Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus expressed deep sympathy to Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and The Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam following the barbaric attack on the offices of the two prominent dailies that started late last night (18 December) and ended early hours today.
“I am deeply shocked by the unexpected and heinous attack on your institutions and journalists. The government stands by you in this difficult time,” the Chief Adviser said to the editors of two dailies through telephone calls, as per a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing today (19 December).
He said the attack on two of the country’s leading media institutions amounts to an attack on free and independent media.
Such incidents have created a major obstacle to the country’s democratic progress and the path of independent journalism.
The chief adviser assured the editors of full security for them and their media organisations, as well as all necessary cooperation.
He also said he would meet the editors in person very soon, as per the statement.
