The government has decided to keep fuel prices unchanged in May, according to a letter sent to Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division today (30 April).
On 18 April, the retail price of a litre diesel was set at Tk115, kerosene at Tk130, octane at Tk140, and petrol at Tk135.
The new rates increased diesel by Tk 15 per litre, octane by Tk 20, petrol by Tk19, and kerosene by Tk18.
The decision was taken after the US-Israeli war on Iran, which prompted an Iranian stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz sent shock waves through global energy supply, driving up prices.
