Biman signs deal with Boeing to purchase 14 aircraft

Biman Bangladesh has signed a deal with Boeing, a leading global aerospace company, to purchase 14 aircraft. 

A purchase agreement was signed yesterday at the Hotel InterContinental in the capital. Biman signs deal with Boeing is part of govt action plan to fooster air services.

Under the agreement, Biman will acquire 10 B787 Dreamliners and four B737.

Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam attended the event as the chief guest.

Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Civil Aviation and Tourism Affairs Humayun Kabir were present as special guests.

Speaking to journalists after the event, the civil aviation minister said the BNP government remains committed to implementing its electoral manifesto as swiftly as possible.

“The government’s goal is to transform Biman Bangladesh Airlines into a modern and passenger-friendly carrier. To that end, adding technologically advanced aircraft to the fleet was essential,” she noted.  

Meanwhile, she recalled the bilateral meeting between shahid President Ziaur Rahman and former US President Jimmy Carter.

Besides, State Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the agreement is not merely a commercial decision but one that will open a new horizon in Bangladesh–US relations.

“The purchase of 14 Boeing aircraft marks significant progress in the development of the country’s aviation sector,” he added.
