For the first time in 15 years, the Australian cricket team is heading to Bangladesh for a bilateral One Day International (ODI) series. Accompanied by a three-match T20 International leg, the highly anticipated June tour was officially confirmed by Cricket Australia on Friday.
This upcoming visit serves as a vital precursor to the Bangladesh squad’s reciprocal tour of Australia scheduled for August. According to the final itinerary obtained by Sangbad24, Cricket Australia has slightly pushed back the initial dates proposed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
The Weight of History
The tour carries significant historical baggage. Australia last played an ODI series on Bangladeshi soil in 2011, where Michael Clarke’s side delivered a crushing 3-0 whitewash against Shakib Al Hasan’s team. Five years prior, in 2006, Ricky Ponting’s squad achieved the exact same 3-0 result against Habibul Bashar’s unit. Bangladesh will be entering this series looking to finally break that streak and rewrite history on their home turf.
The Updated Schedule While the BCB originally targeted June 5 for the opening match, the six-match limited-overs series will now officially commence on June 9. The games are split cleanly across two venues to accommodate both formats:
