Hadi’s body arrives in Dhaka, will be buried beside nat’l poet Kazi Nazrul

The dead body of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, has arrived at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

A commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the body landed at Dhaka airport at 5:48pm this evening (19 December), the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing said in a release.

His namaj-e-janaza will take place at Manik Mia Avenue at 2:30pm tomorrow (20 December). After that Hadi will be laid to rest beside the mausoleum of Bangladesh’s national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam, on the Dhaka University campus.

The decision follows a request from Hadi’s family, Inqilab Mancha announced on its official Facebook page on Friday afternoon, December 19.

Inqilab Moncho urged the students and the public to continue the movement with discipline today and tomorrow to ensure that no group can infiltrate to suppress the movement or find an opportunity to incite violence.

It also said there will be no opportunity to see Hadi’s body.

Sharif Osman Hadi was born in Deldur village of Nalchiti Upazila in Jhalakathi district. His father was a madrasa teacher and a local imam.

He was the youngest among six siblings. He began his formal education at Nalchiti Islamia Fazil Madrasa and later joined Jhalakathi NS Kamil Madrasa in the fourth grade.

Hadi enrolled in the Department of Political Science at Dhaka University after completing his Alim examination.

He later worked as a teacher at a private English-language institute and, most recently, taught at the University of Scholars.

Hadi died last night while undergoing treatment in Singapore.

On 12 December, while returning from a public outreach program in Motijheel, Hadi was shot in the head.

Hadi was severely injured and underwent surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital before being admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. Later, on Monday, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment.

Following the incident, Abdullah Al Jaber, Secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed a case at Paltan Police Station on 14 December.

Faisal Karim Masud, alias Daud, has been named as the main accused, along with several unidentified suspects.

Law enforcement agencies have arrested 11 people so far in connection with the shooting of Hadi.
