India shuts visa application centre in Ctg over security concerns

ndia has shut down operations at the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Chattogram over security concerns, per a notice on the IVAC website last night (20 December).

The suspension will remain in effect from Sunday (21 December) until further notice. 

“Due to recent security incident at AHCI Chittagong [Assistant High Commission of India], Indian visa operations at IVAC Chittagong will remain suspended from 21/12/2025 until further notice. The announcement for reopening the visa centre will be made after reviewing the situation,” the notice said.

Earlier, on the night of 18 December, following the news of the death of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, who was shot in the head by assailants on 12 December, enraged protesters rallied in front of the Indian assistant high commission. 

Additional law enforcers were deployed at the high commission premises to maintain security.

On the same day in Dhaka, angry protesters also set fire to two newspaper offices and other buildings.
